SecretaryAs a child, Jonathan fixated on the small airplanes and helicopters departing the Reid-Hillview Airport behind his home; with each glimpse, he grew increasingly fascinated. At the age of 16, Jonathan purchased a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 which included a coupon for a real demonstration flight. Before Jonathan could drive a car, he had already piloted a plane! However without steady finances to study aviation, the dream seems to slowly slip away.
In 2004, Jonathan enlisted in the US Army. While serving his country for 15 years, Jonathan held positions as a Forward Observer, Helicopter Mechanic, and Medic. Jonathan's love for aviation helped him in his career. When offered a crew position on MEDEVAC flights to transport wounded troops to medical facilities, he jumped at the chance and realized that he wanted to more for his fellow Service Members, leading to his training and service as an Army Medic.
After 15 years, Jonathan left the US Army and pursued a career in Medical Education, specifically in Healthcare Simulation. He quickly realized the roots of Healthcare Simulation stemmed from Aviation Simulation. In an effort to enhance patient outcomes, the healthcare industry adopted concepts already used in aviation, such as simulation-based training, the use of checklists for procedures, and Crisis Resource Management techniques.
Feeling like he was coming full circle back to aviation, Jonathan dedicated himself back to aviation and organizing the N917LA Social Club to help like-minded members enjoy the thrill and adventure of aviation.
"Flying brings with it a renewed sense of freedom; there's nothing quite like it. Every time I jump in the cockpit, I get the same thrill I got the first time I drove a car, except I get that feeling every single time. It's truly a magical feeling that's hard to describe except that everyone should have the opportunity to try it out at least once."
